3 Goat Ranch is a ground-up residential retreat at the base of Goat Mountain north of the Joshua Tree National Park. Two separate building volumes are arranged as a “mini compound” and create a sense of containment in the intimate spaces between them in this otherwise remote area.

This building uses high-efficiency insulation, a compact geometry, shade trellises and precisely placed windows that capture carefully selected views to mitigate heat gain in the harsh climate of the Southern California desert.
